One of the main areas of focus of the National Mission on Sustainable Habitat is accelerating energy efficiency – specifically in the nation’s rapidly growing commercial and high rise residential building sector. The development of environment friendly sustainable habitats is gaining momentum in India. It is projected that building stock in India is to increase five-fold from 2005-2050 and can emerge as the global leader in green developments by the year 2015.
The ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) and Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) are leading the way for advancing building efficiency. To advance the Sustainable Habitat Mission’s efficient building program and to drive local support, MoUD and BEE, along with knowledge partners ASCI (Administrative Staff College of India) and NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) are convening a pioneering building efficiency work shop “Constructing Change: Accelerating Energy Efficiency in the Buildings Sector” at Hotel Royal Plaza, 19, Ashoka Road, New Delhi, 110001 on March 6, 2012. Please note there is no fee for this workshop, and attendance is by invitation only.
The objective of this one-day workshop is to provide MoUD and BEE an opportunity to engage with key stakeholders – national and local governments, real estate developers and finance institutions – about the need for promoting energy efficiency component of the sustainable habitat mission.
