Faculty Profile - Ms. Sohini Basu
Sohini Basu is currently an Assistant Professor in Gender Studies Area at Centre for Human Development. She has done graduate-level work from National University of Singapore where her thesis focused on the responses of women to a situation of abuse by their partner.

She has been the recipient of fellowships supported by The South Asia Network of Economic research Institutes (SANEI) and Ford Foundation.

She is involved in training government officials in a variety of development-related topics including gender and development, gender sensitization, monitoring and evaluation and related areas.

Her publications include articles on theoretical issues in sexual harassment at workplace, the effects of domestic violence on women’s employment and changing relations on north and south NGOs.

Current Interests

Her research and teaching interests are in the field of gender and development. Her research interests include exploring culturally specific dynamics of intimate partner violence and sexual harassment, gender budgeting, and north-south NGO partnership and its impact on gender equality. She is currently working on the importance of social capital as a protective factor for women in violent relationships in South-Asian context
